AHRI release August shipment data

USA – The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has released its latest figures pertaining to the shipment of heating and cooling equipment in August 2015. The trends for the month of August are positive and encouraging for everyone involved in the trade.
The AHRI report revealed that U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for August 2015 decreased by 0.3 %, giving a total of 321,594 units shipped, down from the 322,536 units that had been shipped in August 2014. Residential electric storage water heater shipments dropped by 4.4 % in August 2015 to 285,717 units, a marked decrease on the 299,023 units shipped in August 2014.
Even allowing for the decrease in August, year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters have increased by 6.6% to 3,105,321, compared to 2,913,876 units shipped over the same period in 2014. Residential electric storage water heater shipments have likewise increased by 3.3% for the year-to-date, reaching 2,865,703 units as compared to the 2,773,935 units shipped during the same period in 2014.
The figures released from the AHRI report also indicate that commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased by 0.4% in August 2015 to 6,776 units, a drop on the 6,805 units shipped in August 2014. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments however increased by a huge 30.0% in August 2015 to a total of 7,172 units, up from the 5,517 units that were shipped in August 2014.
For 2015 so far, U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters have increased by 5.0 % to 66,847 units, compared with the 63,646 units which were shipped over the same period in 2014. Meanwhile, the year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments have also increased by 15.1 % to 56,904 units, a notable increase on the 49,418 units shipped during the same period in 2014.
Similarly, U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for August 2015 increased by a whopping 31.1 % to 269,279 units, a huge increase on the 205,324 units shipped in August 2014. Oil warm air furnace shipments also continued the positive trend, increasing by 10.0 % to 3,094 units in August 2015, up on the 2,813 units shipped in August 2014.
Thanks in no small part to their strong performance in August, the year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased by 4.9 % to 1,712,258 units, compared with 1,631,750 units that had been shipped over the same period in 2014. The year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces were also boosted by August’s results and posted an increase of 12.0 % to 19,101, compared with 17,050 units shipped during the same period in 2014.
The AHRI report also revealed that U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totalled 565,252 units in August 2015, representing a 9.0 % increase on the 518,650 units shipped in August 2014. Similar results were recorded for U.S. shipments of air conditioners, with an increase in shipments of 12.9 % to 393,798 units, up from 348,703 units shipped in August 2014. Completing the good news, U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased by 0.9 % to 171,454 units, up from the 169,947 units that had been shipped in August 2014.
August’s results confirmed the year-to-date trends with combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increasing by 3.0 %, to 5,212,328 units, up from 5,060,065 units shipped in August 2014. In 2015, shipments of central air conditioners have increased by 3.7 %, totalling 3,489,113 units, an increase on the 3,365,101 units shipped during the same period in 2014. Finally, the year-to-date total for heat pump shipments has so far increased by 1.7 % to 1,723,215 units, an improvement on the 1,694,964 units shipped during the same period in 2014.
