USA – The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) have released the June shipment data for the transport of heating and cooling equipment in the USA.

The data shows that U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for June 2015 increased by 17.9%, reaching 413,536 units, a marked increase on the 350,826 units shipped in June 2014. However, the shipments of residential electric storage water heater decreased 6.0% over the same period, for a total of 322,059 units, down from the 342,463 units that were shipped in June 2014.

For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters have increased by 8.0%, totalling 2,453,831 shipments, compared to the 2,272,607 units which were shipped over the corresponding period in 2014. Despite the decrease in the latest month’s figures, residential electric storage water heater shipments have also increased by 7.1% over the year-to-date, reaching 2,313,209 units, compared to the 2,160,629 units shipped during the same period in 2014.

The shipment trends for commercial gas storage water heater shipments were the reverse of residential shipments, with a decrease of 7.1% in shipments for June 2015, down to 7,535 units, a decrease on the 8,111 units shipped in June 2014. Conversely, commercial electric storage water heater shipments posted an increase of 14.3% for June 2015, giving a total of 7,444 units shipped, up from the 6,514 units shipped in June 2014.

The Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters is however a positive trend with shipments showing an increase of 6.5%, for a total of 52,928 units, compared with the 49,713 units that had been shipped over the same period in 2014. To confirm this upturn, the year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments have increased by 13.1% to 42,733 units, up from 37,779 units shipped during the same period in 2014.

The monthly U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for June 2015 were also hugely encouraging for the industry, with an increase of 8.6% to 257,321 units shipped in comparison to the 236,962 units shipped in June 2014. Oil warm air furnace shipments also performed strongly with a notable 28.5% increase on shipments giving a total of 2,131 units in June 2015, up on the 1,659 units shipped in June 2014.

Despite the stronger performance in June, the year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces decreased by 0.7%, to 1,221,416 units, compared with the 1,230,521 units shipped over the same period in 2014. However, the extremely positive results for June saw the year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increase by 14.4% to 14,108, compared to the 12,332 units shipped during the corresponding period in 2014.

Finally, the U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps numbered 878,513 units in June 2015, down by 8.2% on the 957,238 units shipped in June 2014. The U.S. shipments of air conditioners also decreased, this time by 9.1% to 611,900 units, down on the 673,296 units shipped in June 2014, while U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps decreased by 6.1%, totalling 266,613 units, a decrease on the 283,942 units shipped in June 2014.

Despite the disappointing figures posted in June, the year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps have increased by 2.3%, to 3,920,466 units, up from the 3,831,136 units shipped in June 2014. Similarly, the year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners have increased by 2.2 % to 2,588,401 units, up from the 2,532,548 units that were shipped over the same period last year while the year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased by 2.6 % to 1,332,065 units, up from the 1,298,588 units shipped during the corresponding period in 2014.
