Chinese university marks 60th anniversary of refrigeration

CHINA – The prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) recently organised an event to celebrate its 120th anniversary and also the 60th anniversary of Refrigeration education in China. The event was attended by thousands of alumni and numerous political and academic representatives, with key speakers including the Mayor of Shanghai, Yang Xiong  and Du Zhanyuan, the Vice Minister of Education in China.

The event also featured a presentation by Abel Li, Carel China’s HVAC/R Laboratory manager andProf. Wang Ruzhu, director of the institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenics (SJTU),  an internationally-renowned professor.
Andrea Veneziani, CEO of Carel China expressed his delight at being involved in the celebrations, commenting “Carel is the only Italian company to have its own test area inside the Green Energy Laboratory, the Made in Italy building designed by Archea on the  Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This space – entirely set up by Carel – is made available to students to carry out tests and experiments. We recognise the importance of our close relationships with Chinese universities and in the constructive dialogue we are establishing with them”.

Biagio Lamanna, HVAC/R Knowledge Centre Manager, took the opportunity to outline the university’s commitment to refrigeration, explaining “This space inside Shanghai Jiao Tong University is part of our strategy to maintain close relationships with universities around the world”, explained . “It is to all effects and purposes a test area for CAREL solutions, however we wanted to set it up inside the university campus so as to encourage closer synergies with the university and make it a place of study and research for students”.
