Bitzer’s condensing unit for hot regions

GERMANY – The compressor specialist Bitzer has developed a new condensing unit designed for use at high ambient temperatures and possessing greater cooling capacity. The company claim that their new air-cooled condensing unit, the LH265E is energy-efficient, robust and ideally suited for low temperature applications in countries with a hot climate.

The LH265E condensing unit has been designed with warmer regions such as Asia and the Middle East as the primary markets but the unit will also be launched in the European market. The new condensing unit has a cooling capacity of more than 40 kW for low temperature applications and is compatible with both single and double stage semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors which, according to Bitzer, make the unit ideal for high ambient temperatures.

“The LH265E was designed specifically for the low temperature application in demanding conditions,” states Dieter Hildebrandt, BITZER Manager World Condensing Unit. “This has allowed us to meet the demand for reliable condensing units in extremely warm countries as well as exploit growth opportunities in these regions.”

Bitzer further claim that the condensing unit may even achieve a capacity of more than 40 kW for low temperature applications when used with certain refrigerants. “Even in extremely high outside temperatures, the condenser guarantees reliable operations and maintains the cold store temperature,” added Hildebrandt.

Other features that the company hope will prove attractive to customers include a robust weather protective housing which renders the device corrosion-resistant and the compact size and flexibility of the LH265E. The condensing unit can either be equipped with all single stage four-cylinder compressors or single and double stage six-cylinder reciprocating compressors from Bitzer’s Ecoline series. The single stage Ecoline reciprocating compressors are efficient and can be fitted with capacity control as an additional extra option while it is also possible to equip the double stage six-cylinder compressors with liquid sub coolers, which should help increase the unit’s cooling capacity and efficiency. The company state that the LH265E is compatible with all authorized refrigerants for Ecoline reciprocating compressors, including R134a, R404A, R407A and R407F.

The LH265E is the top end product in Bitzer’s new LHE series, which was launched at the end of 2014. The condensing units conform to the efficiency requirements under the current EU Ecodesign Directive and the company claim that the new range of condensing units offers much better air cooling than their predecessors. In an attempt to increase efficiency, Bitzer have installed the fans in a revised full bell mouth which they hope will optimally guide the air stream and thus reduce noise generation. EC fans can be added as an option to ensure maximum energy efficiency.

Further optional features that may be added to improve the condensing unit’s performance include the possibility of equipping the LH265E with an accessories package comprising a pressure limiter, oil separator with check valve, and a liquid line with filter drier, sight glass and solenoid valve, while it is also possible to simply retrofit the condensing unit with the corresponding accessories, just like the compressor.
