Chinese air purifier market expanding by 33% per year

CHINA — The increase in the level of air pollution linked to the rapid expansion of production and urbanization sites will greatly amplify the demand for air purifiers over the next five years in China.
In recent decades, China has become the giant of the global manufacturing industry with all global market leaders establishing their production sites, warehouses and R & D centers in the country. The main factors responsible for this trend are the abundance of raw materials and the easy availability of skilled labor at cheaper and advantageous costs. However, the rapid expansion of production activities and ongoing urban developments have severely impacted on the country’s natural resources. The air quality in China has depleted to the point that some scientists even claim that natural processes such as photosynthesis in plants have slowed down. One consequence of this worrying situation is the creation of favorable conditions for the development of a lucrative market for air purifiers which make it possible to improve the overall air quality in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
The demand for air purifiers in China has grown in recent years. In addition to industrial units and buildings, air purifier systems are increasingly popular in shopping malls, supermarkets and even homes. With growing numbers of people suffering from serious health conditions such as asthma and lung cancer, Chinese consumers are increasingly turning to air purifiers. The significant increase in the per capita income of Chinese consumers has also played a crucial role in this increase in air purifier sales. Accordingly, it is expected that residential air purifier demand is expected to increase over the coming years in the country.

According to a recent report conducted by TechSci Research “China Air Purifiers Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019”the Chinese market for air purifiers is expected to grow in revenue in the range of 33.55 % between 2014 and 2019. The report reveals that high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) based air purifiers are expected to continue to dominate the Chinese market in the coming years. Other technologies such as Plasmacluster Ion technology, Nanoe G and Photocatalysis are also expected to gain a foothold in the Chinese market.

“Chinese cities like Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Tianjin, etc., are ranked among the most polluted cities across the globe. This indicates a huge growth opportunity for air purifier companies operating in the country to focus on these cities and offer customized air purifiers to explore the untapped market.”, said Mr. Karan Chechi, Research Director with TechSci Research, a global management consulting firm. “Since China is the largest producer and consumer of cigarettes, the indoor air quality also puts consumers at high risk of contracting respiratory and other cardiovascular diseases.”, added Mr. Chechi.
