Daikin help keep radio station cool

UK – Daikin UK and TechniCool Air Conditioning Ltd have joined forces to donate a free air conditioning system installation to Reprezent 107.3FM, London’s only youth-led radio station. The radio station, which is based in POPBrixton and occupies three repurposed shipping containers, is run by the award-winning social enterprise, Reprezent, which provides accredited radio and media training courses for young people aged 13-24, particularly those from disadvantaged areas and not in employment, education or training (NEET).

Commenting on the donation, Shane Carey, the director of Reprezent, revealed that “With over 100 young people broadcasting from Reprezent’s studios in POPBrixton, it got incredibly hot and stuffy! The Daikin team visited the studio to find the best solution, and recommended a unit which would work well for our unique environment.”

The new air conditioning system, which was donated by Daikin UK and then installed for free by the Coulsdon, Surrey-based TechniCool Air Conditioning, should ensure that the radio station has a comfortable indoor climate all year round.

Steve Trowbridge, one of the two TechniCool Air Conditioning Ltd engineers who installed the system, said, “We were privileged to be able to carry out the installation, it’s great to be involved in a project that will positively impact on the future of Reprezent and the young people the organisation supports.”

The new air-conditioning system at Reprezent consisits of a 5kw single under ceiling unit, part of the FLXS Flexi-wall and ceiling range, which Daikin considers to be ideal for applications where there is limited wall space available. The system, which features five fan speeds and vertical auto swing, is designed to automatically swing up and down to ensure efficient air and temperature distribution throughout the room.

Dirk Slagmulder, the managing director of Daikin UK, commented on the donation, saying “When we heard about Reprezent’s work with young people and the issues they were having with uncontrollable temperatures in the studio, we wanted to help out by giving them an even better climate for success. We are lucky to work with like-minded partners, such as TechniCool, who are also keen to make a difference – and they did a great job at POPBrixton. Now the presenters and behind the scenes support technicians at Reprezent can not only enjoy the radio station but also the atmosphere in the studio.”

Shane Carey was effusive in his praise for the new system, declaring “The installation team were really friendly and efficient, and managed to work around lots of hyperactive young people. Our radio station is now so much more comfortable for everyone – it’s amazing the difference a Daikin aircon unit makes! Thank you so much from all the staff and presenters at Reprezent 107.3FM!”
