AHRI July 2014: REPORT OF SHIPPING EQUIPMENT COOLING AND HEATING

The shipping of gas water heaters for the month of July 2014 increased by 7.5%, or 318,733 units compared with 296,623 units sold in the same period in 2013. The export of electric water heaters for residential use grew by 9.9 % in July 2014, with 314,283 units compared to 286,013 units sold in the market in July 2013.

US sales of gas water heaters for residential sector increased by 3.7% to 2,591,340 units against the 2,500,077 sold during the same period in 2013. Sales of electric water heater for the sector residential rose 5.8 %, or 2,474,912 units compared to 2,338,923 units shipped in the same period in 2013.

Water heaters for commercial use

Sales of water heaters for commercial use rose 1.2 % in July 2014, with 7,128 units compared to sales in July 2013, with 7034 units. Sales of electric water heaters increased by 8.1 % or 6,122 units compared to 5,665 units delivered to the same period in 2013.

US imports of gas water heaters for commercial use have increased by 5% to 56,841 units compared to 54,841 units sold in July 2013. Sales of electric water heater for the same sector increased from 10.6% from 39,687 to 43,901 units.

Furnaces

The sale of gas furnaces for July 2014 decreased by 3.3% due to the 195,905 units sold in the market. Sales in the same period of the previous year were 202,519 units. The sale of fuel oil furnaces increased by 19.4% with 1,905 units compared to that of 2013, which was only 1596 units.

The US imports of gas furnaces rose 4.2% to 1,426,426 units against the 1,368,297 units sold during the same period in 2013. For hot air heating equipment using oil, sales increased 6.4% with 14,237 units compared with 13,380 units delivered in July 2013.

Central air conditioning and geothermal hot air pumps

The US shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totalled 710,279 units in July 2014. This equates to a decrease of 1.6 % against the 721,979 units sold in July 2013. The US shipments of air conditioning equipment fell 7.4% to 483,850 units against the 522,289 units sold in July 2013. The US shipments of air-source heat pumps increased by 13.4% to 226,429 units, compared to 199,690 units sold in July 2013.

Central air conditioners shipments increased 2.9 %, with sales of 3,016,398 units, compared with 2,932,810 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Heat pump shipments grew 14.9 percent with 1,525,017 units, compared with 1,327,107 units sold during the same period in 2013.
